Caithness is the most Northerly County in the UK and offers great opportunities to explore wild landscapes, sheltered woodlands, fertile farmlands, soaring sea cliffs and deserted beaches.
Barrock Mains is a working farm and there’s always plenty going on from shearing the sheep in June to ploughing the fields in the winter. Whichever season you choose to visit you will have the opportunity to enjoy a simpler way of life, which you can share with friends and family, and experience the farming lifestyle at the same time.
On the Farm there are many wonderful walks and views to appreciate. The farm has two burns on the lower east and south boundaries. These were built to prevent flooding in a huge project about 200 years ago. There are fish in the river and occasionally an otter or herring can be seen. An hour’s walk from the lodges, heading west, brings you to Oalston House. The views here are inspirational and only the sound of the Lapwing (Shochadh) and Curlew can be heard.
